There is much confusion on this subject on the internet.

It is the voltage output of the stator that rises with increasing RPM, not the energy produced. The POTENTIAL power output of the stator does rise with higher RPM but the ACTUAL power output is a function of the load and what current it draws.

If nothing is connected to the stator then no current is drawn and there are no losses in its windings thus no heat produced.

When a load is connected to the stator current flows through it. The higher the current the greater the losses in the stator windings and it heats up.

In a shunt type regulator current is drawn both by the regulator and the bike's electrics. The more current drawn the lower the voltage produced. For any given RPM a certain amount of current must be drawn to reduce the output to the desired voltage. If more current is drawn by the bike's electrics less is drawn by the shunt regulator.

That is why adding accessories has no impact on stator heating or stator life.
