WP Suspension - EDS Manual
INTRDDUKTIDN:
Allgemein:
Wir gratulieren Ihnen zu dem Kauf eines WP Suspension Produktes.
Das EDS-Fahrwerk ermöglicht dem Fahrer, das Fahrwerk seines Motorrades, per Knopfdruck optimal auf seinen Fahrstil, die Beladung
des Motorrades und die jeweiligen Streckenverhältnisse abzustimmen.
Das EDS-System besteht aus: Stoßdämpfer vomelhinten, hydraulische Niveauregulierung, Elektronik-Einhe~ und dem Bedienelement.
Wir bitten Sie, dieses Handbuch vor Inbetriebnahme und Einbau sorgfällig durchzulesen.
Da viele BMW-Motorräder mit einem CAN-Bus-System ausgestattet sind, ist es notwendig, dass eine offizielle BMW-Werkstatt die
Stromversorgung anschließt. Dieses geschieht mit Hilfe eines speziellen Kabels. Der BMW Händler kann über die Motorrad-Schnittstelle,
den Stromverbrauch des EDS-Systems Freischalten.
Bitte kontaktieren Sie ihren BMW-Händler.
Bitte beachten Sie folgende Punkte im Umgang mit WP Suspension Produkten:
Kontrollieren Sie vor jeder Fahrt Ihre WP Produkte.
Sorgen Sie dafür, dass alle Produkte und Werkzeuge sauber und in einem einwandfreien Zustand sind.
Für Arbeiten an WP Suspension Federungselementen sollten Sie immer eine offizielle WP-Werkstatt aufsuchen.
Bitte Beachten: .
Wenn das System in Störung geht, muss das System "Resetet" werden, indem die Zündung Ausund
Ein geschaltet wird.
Wenn die Störung durch einen überhitzten Motorder NIveauregulIerung verursacht wird: . Motorabkühlen lassen -einen "Reset" vornehmen indem die Zündung Aus- und Ein geschaltet wird. . Die Federvorspannung sollte nur geändert werden, ohne Zuladung auf dem Motorrad (also kein
Fahrer/Gepäck) und auf dem Hauptständer stehend.
Bitte beachten Sie bei der Montage der Elektronik, dass das rote Kabel angeschlossen wird auf "-
dem + Pol der Batterie. Bei einem falschen Anschluß, wird die Elektronikzerstört und Ist NICHT
reparierbar.
Das System sollte NICHTmit hohem Wasserdruck gereinigt werden.

INTRUUUCTlUN:
General:
Congratulations on your purehase of your WP Suspension product!
This EDS shock system will provide you with an electronic adjustable suspension system, which allows you to adjust your suspension
with a push of a button.
The box contains the front and rear shock absorber, hydraulic pre-Ioad adjuster, adjustment unit and the electronic control module (ECM)
including all wiring.
Please read this manual carefully before installing the EDS system.
Because BMW uses the CAN bus system, your authorized BMW dealer has to connect the power cable of the EDS system to the
motorcycle using a special accessory cable available trough BMW and release the additional power source using special BMW soll- and
hardware.
Please consult you authorized BMW dealer for this.
Pay attention to the following notes, when you are working with WP suspension products as described in this Owners manual:
Always inspect your WP product before use.
Clean all parts before (dis-)assembling.
Always use clean and professional tools.
Always have your shock serviced by a certified WP Suspension dealer.
Warning: shock and pre-Ioad adjustment unit are pressurized!
Improper use can lead to serious injuries, including death.
Plea§e Note:
. If the system is malfunctloning, switch off the Ignltion back on to reset.
If the malfunctioning is caused by an overheated motor of the Pre-Ioad adjuster:
- let it cool down
- switch off the ignition back on to reset.
The Pre-Ioad adjuster should only be adjusted when the bike is not loaded (no passenger/luggage)
and should be on it's centre stand
Please note the colours of the electric cables that go to the control module. The red cable should
be connected to the positive wire, otherwise the unit will be out of order and cannot be repaired
Do NOT clean any part of the system wlth a high pressure cleaner .

MUNTAGE / IN!iTALLATlUN:
Stellen Sie Ihr Motorrad auf den Hauptständer.
Positionieren Sie Ihr Motorrad so, dass das Hinterrad nicht den Boden berührt.
Entfernen Sie den Original-Stoßdämpfer, indem Sie zuerst die untere Schraube entfernen.
Halten Sie das Vorderrad fest, wenn Sie die zweite Schraube lösen. Entfernen Sie nun die Mutter an der Oberseite des Stoßdämpfers.
Wir empfehlen Ihnen, mit Hme einer zweiten Person, die Mutter und den kompletten Dämpfer zu demontieren.
Put your motorcycle on the centre stand.
Put a supporting device underneath the engine of your motorcycle, so the rear wheel just touches the ground and your front wheel is of
the ground as much as possible.
Remove the original front shock absorber by first removing the bottom bolt.
Hold the front wheel in place while taking out the bolt.
After the bolt is taken out: lower the front wheel.
Now unscrew the nut on top.
It's advised to use a second person to hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the top nut to prevent the nut and washer of falling
down.
You will now be able to take out the original shock absorber.
Das Montieren des WP Suspension Stoßdämpfers funktioniert in
umgekehrter Reihenfolge.
Bitte achten Sie bei der Montage darauf, dass der Elektromotor zur
Vorderseite des Motorrades weist (siehe Abbildung).
Beim Anziehen der oberen Mutter können Sie einen schmalen
Gegenstand, der keine Kratzer verursacht, in die obere
Federvorspannung stecken, damit ein Drehen des Dämpfers verhindert
wird.
Mutter und Schrauben immer gemäß der BMW-VorgabelRichtlinie, mit
dem richtigen Drehmoment, festziehen.
Now the WP can be mounted by following the above mentioned steps in
opposite order.
Position the electric motor to the front of the bike when mounting the
shock, as shown in the picture.
When the top nut is tightened, you can prevent the shock from turning by
pulling a Philips screwdriver in the top spring retainer.
Tighten the top nut and bottom bolt with the specilied amount of torque.
Please consult your BMW dealer for the right value '5.
Jetzt kann der Original-Hinter Dämpfer herausgenommen werden. Stellen
Sie das Motorrad auf eine ebene Räche: Das Hinterrad berührt jetzt den
Boden nicht mehr.
Sie müssen das Hinterrad auf die richtige Höhe bringen, um die untere
Schraube zu entfernen. Nach Entfemung der oberen Schrauben, lässt
sich der hintere Dämpfer problemlos demontieren.
Montieren Sie das EDS-Federbein in umgekehrter Reihenfolge und
achten Sie bitte darauf, dass der Elektromotor zur linken Seite des
Motorrades zeigt.
Schrauben des Dämpfers nach BMW-Richtlinien, mit dem korrekten
Drehmoment, anziehen.
Now the original rear shock can be taken out:
Remove the supporting device underneath the engine, so the front wheel touches the ground.
The rear wheel will be lift of the ground.
Take out the originalshock by removing the bollom bolt first, followed by the top bolt and take out the originalshock.
Mount the WP electrical WP shock by following the above mentioned steps in opposite order.
Position the electric motor to the left of the bike when mounting the shock, as shown in the picture.
Tighten the top and bollom bolt with the specified amount of torque. Please consult your BMW dealer for the right value's.

MUNTAGE / IN!iTALLATlUN:
Die Niveauregulierung sollte am Heck, an dem mitgelieferten Bügel, montiert
werden. Die Schrauben festdrehen mit 10Nm.
Der Schlauch der Niveauregulierung sollte am rechten seite des Rahmen
vertaufen.
Now install the hydraulic pre-Ioad adjustment module.
It should be fitted in the rear of your motorcycle, with the use of the special
provided adaptor.
Tighten bolts with 10Nm.
The hydraulic hose should run on the right side of your subframe.
Die Stickstoffbehä~er sollte am rechten Se~e des Unterrahmen, an der ,
Fußraste des Sozius, montiert werden. Gebrauchen Sie die mitgelieferten
Plastikha~er um den Ausgleichsbehä~er anzubringen.
Der Schlauch des Stickstoffbehälter sollte zwischen dem Dämpfer und dem
Ele.ktromotor vertaufen.
Now install the nitrogen reservoir.
It should be fitted to the right side of the sub frame, on the passenger foot
peg.
Use the supplied rubber pieces and hose clamp to mount the nitrogen
reservoir.
The hydraulic hose should go from the upper side of the shock absorber,
between the shock and engine, to the nitrogen reservoir.
Entnehmen Sie den Schrauben aus des linken Se~e Ihres Lenkers
Remove the bolt on the left side, out of your handle bar
Montieren Sie das mitgelieferte Ha~er im Gewinde des Lenkers.
Verlegung der Kabel siehe Bild.
Befestigen Sie das Kabel mit Kabelbindem.
Montieren Sie den Scha~asten am Halterung
Mount the supplied special part in the thread of your handle bar.
Continue routing the cable for the adjustment module as shown on the
picture.
Clamp the cables with the provided tie-raps.
Mount the adjustment module to the supplied special part.

KABELFUHRUN6/ WIRIN6:
Das Steuergerät soll im Heck unter der Sitztank untergebracht werden. Der
verbleibende Rest der Mulde sollte mit Schaumstoff gefüllt werden.
Remove the seat and place the electronic control module in the space just
above your rear light.
It's advised to use foam to fiIJthe gaps.
Verlegung der Kabel siehe Bild.
Befestigen Sie die Kabel mit Kabelbindem.
Route the cables of the Iront shock absorber and the adjustmenl module as
shown in the picture.
Clamp the cables with the provided tie-raps.
Verlegung der Kabel siehe Bild.
Befestigen Sie die Kabel mit Kabelbindern.
Montieren Sie die Verbindung .rebound fronr am Elektromotor des
vorderen Dämpfers.
Warnuno:
Vergewissern Sie sich, dass das Kabel lang genug ist, wenn der Dämpfer
völlig ausgefahren ist. Das Kabel darf in keiner Situation eingeklemmt
werden.
Continue routing the cable for the front shock absorber as shown on the
picture.
Fasten the cable to the brake line using the provided tie-raps.
Connect the connector "rebound front" with the electric motor.
Warn/na:
Make sure the cable has enough slack to let the shock absorber extend
lully, but also make sure the cable cannot be caught beIWeen the spring!

Route the cableslhose 01the Pre-Ioad adjuster, rear shock compression
adjustment and rear shock rebound adjustment over the right side of the sub
frame. near the passenger footpeg.
Connect the .comression rear" cable for the compression adjustment to the
electric motor on top of the shock, dose 10the nitrogen reservoir.

KABELFUHRUN6/ WIRIN6:
Das .rebound rear" Kabel sollte am unteren Elektromotor befestigt werden.
Warnuna:
Vergewissern Sie sich, dass das Kabel lang genug ist, wenn der Dämpfer
völlig ausgefahren ist. Das Kabel darf in keiner Situation eingeklemmt
werden. (bild zeigt Einbau bei der 1150GS)
Connect the .rebound rear" cable for the rebound adjustment to the electric
motor located at the bottom 01the shock.
Warnina:
Make sure the cables have enough slack to move when the shock is lully
extended, but cannot get caught between the shock or other parts. (picture
shows situation in 1150GS model)
Connect the EDS sytem as shown below:

ElN§TELLUN6 /AUJU§TMENT :
Durch die Bedieneinheit, können Sie die Einstellung der Federelemente verändern. Bitte
bedenken Sie, dass sich durch diese Veränderungen, das Handling Ihres Motorrades verändert.
Nach Einschalten der Zündung wird das CAN-Bus-System nach einiger Zeit das EDS-System
einschalten. Im Bedienelement werden alle leuchten zur Kontrolle aufleuchten.
Auf der linken Seite im Bedienelement wird die zuletzt gewählte Einstellung durch eine
Leuchtanzeige sichtbar.
Hinweis:
Die linke Anzeige wird 10 bis 15 Sekunden aufleuchten und ist nur in dieser Zeitspanne
verstellbar.
Die Niveauregulierung kann somit nur in dieser Zeitspanne vor Fahrbeginn eingestellt werden.
Durch Betätigen der Pfeiltasten kann das Fahrzeugniveau reguliert werden.

Wamuna:
Jede Einstellung beeinflusst das Handling Ihres Motorrades. Bitte nehmen Sie bei jeder Fahrt darauf Rücksicht.
Nach 10 bis 15 Sekunden, wird eine zweite Leuchtanzeige sichtbar. Diese ist abhängig von der zuletzt gewählten Dämpfungseinstellung.
Via Knopfdruck kann diese Einstellung auch während der Fahrt verändert werden.
Achtung:
Der Gesetzgeber verlangt, dass immer beide Hände den Lenker festhalten müssen. Wenn Sie die Dämpfung verändern möchten, sollten
Sie dafür anhalten.

The adjustment module controls the adjustment 01you EDS suspension system.
Please be aware that changing the settings 01the EDS system will change the way your motorcycle handles.
Take your time to get used to the different settings 01 the EDS system.
When you switch on your ignition and the CAN bus system 01BMW releases the power to the EDS system, the entire module will light up
lor a system check.
After the check up, one 01the lights on the left row will blink, depending on your last setting.
NOTE:
This light will blink lor aproxx. 10 to 15 seconds, only during this time, you're able to change the spring pre-Ioad setting!
This means you're only abte to change the pre-Ioad setting after power up of the EDS system.
You can now switch between the right spring pre-Ioad using the UP and DOWN arrow to the lollowing settings:
=- Single passenger use. (top left indicator)
_:2 Single passenger use with luggage. (centre left indicator)
=-, Double passenger use. (bottom left indicator)
WARNING:
Impropersettingandusecancauseyourmotorcycleto behavedangerouslyandcauselatal injuries!
After the 10 to 15 seconds are over, one 01the lights on the right side 01the control unit will light up: now you can set your suspension to
the desired way you would like your suspension to reacl:
C -Comlort: provides you with a comlortable ride on all terrain.
N . Normal: provides you with a basic setting, suitable lor almost every terrain
S - Sport: Provides you with a setting that gives you the best leeling with your bike, but gives you the least comIort 01the three
available settings. Suitable for the demanding rider.
WARNING:
The law's in some country's state that you must keep your hands at the handlebars at all times!!
Therelore you should only change these settings while your bike is stopped!
