Given the decades of issues with stators burning out in many makes and models of motorcycles and BMW's own bad experience with ill-designed cooling of the stators in the F800 models it is really inexcusable that BMW implemented a badly designed stator in a location that requires the engine to be removed for replacement. I agree that installing a used stator is a bad idea. I would install a new stator AND replace the shunt type regulator with a series type.
