The BMW OEM regulator is the SHUNT type. The stator will run coller if a SERIES type regulator is used.
The alternator used in the liquid cooled bikes is a Permanent Magnet Alternator. The previous alternators were regulated by varying the current in the field windings. There are no field windings in the PMA as the field is generated by the magnets.
